Project Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n Strengthening the organizational capacity of HabiProt:<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Collecting biodiversity data on high-mountain peatlands, with a focus on insects;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Preparing a Protection Study Proposal<\/strong> for the Giljeva Mountain \u2013 Koritnik area;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Educating and engaging local communities in biodiversity data collection;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Networking with regional organizations and scientific institutions;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Project Description<\/strong><\/p>\n The project focuses on the research and conservation of high-mountain peatlands<\/strong> in southwestern Serbia \u2014 unique yet insufficiently studied ecosystems currently under pressure from multiple threats, including stone extraction, military activities, highway construction, and solar power plant development.<\/p>\n Field activities will take place in the municipalities of Sjenica, Tutin, and \u010cajetina<\/strong>, with special attention given to the sites of Giljeva Mountain \u2013 Koritnik, Kalipolje, Aljinovi\u0107i, and Pope, which are not yet covered by legal protection.<\/p>\n In addition to research activities, the project includes workshops for residents<\/strong>, aimed at raising awareness of the importance of nature conservation and building local capacity for biodiversity data collection.
