Mt. Kosmaj was on April 9 and 10 the venue of “The first butterfly watching weekend” in Serbia.
It was attended by 25 participants and 5 coordinators from our team (Boženka Hric, Bojana Nadaždin, Milan Đurić, Filip Vukajlović and Ivan Tot).
Daytime activities included visiting various terrains and gathering data on butterflies, but also other insects. Altogether, 15 different butterfly and around 30 moth species were recorded, and more than 200 georeferenced data were gathered.
After field activities, there were several short lectures: about our NGO, about NGO Arcus from Bačka Topola, presentation on activities of NGO ORCA and invitiation to their Academy. Mirko Đorđević from IBISS as a project leader thanked for large number of collected specimens and presented preliminary results. After that was arranged the workshop for recognizing butterflies, primarily those found during the day. Night part of activities was seriously impeded by rain, wind and sudden drop of temperature.
We are exceptionally satisfied with quick applications and filling of the capacity, so we sincerely look forward to further similar events.
